The Four Most Important Things I Have Ever Learned by Beverly Lewis

Posted by on Sep 10, 2013 in Beverly Lewis, Health/Wellness, WOW Blog for Women | 0 comments

The Four Most Important Things I Have Ever Learned by Beverly Lewis

One of the first blogs I started reading by a fellow speaker was John Spence. His March post with this same title was very thought–provoking and I determined right then and there to start a Lifepoint blog. It’s pretty hard to limit this list to 4 things, but here it is:

1. I don’t have to be right. Having the attitude of “I’m right and I’ll prove it” is definitely an obstacle in effective communication. Whether it’s dialogue with a co-worker or my spouse, when I am focused on being right, I don’t truly listen. I’m too busy thinking about my rebuttal to hear or respond well to them. (Warning – your pride will take a beating if you apply this lesson. But your relationships will improve with more effective communication. Pride – as in inflated ego is overrated anyway.)

2. Be real and be willing to confront an issue. Okay – I’ll admit it. I’m a pleaser. Like most characteristics, there are 2 sides to this. Indeed, I’m quite a diplomat and I excel at customer service. But as a leader, (“boss-lady”), there are times when direct confrontation is called for. I have found that a problem left to fester only gets worse with time – not better. So the ostrich’s approach of sticking his head in the sand is a sorry tactic and simply doesn’t work in business.

3. Take care of yourself – stress will eat you alive if you let it. None of us are indispensable – though we perceive ourselves to be. Rest, refuel, refresh and take time for family and friends.

4. The 80/20 rule is as certain as the law of gravity. Understanding the rule is critical. It prevents whining, resentment and bitterness. You simply can’t change people. Be thankful when you have the passion, vision and energy to do what others are unwilling to do. (That means you’ll have things they only dream of having.)

The Best is Yet to Come,

Beverly

Networking – The foundation that builds GREAT business by De Harris, WOW Founder/President

Networking – The foundation that builds GREAT business by De Harris, WOW Founder/President

If you were to look at the main key factor of your business and its success, what would it be? Of course, you as the business owner would be one factor, but does the success of a great business depend on the owner of the business? Today, there is so much competition within business that there is more to success within business than the individual running the business. It also depends on the networking of the business, which is a product of the operation of the business. For a business to be highly competitive and to build great business, networking is essential. Networking is the primary foundation of establishing and maintaining a great business. It provides connections to potential customers and business opportunities to a higher extent than any other business factor can offer.

Social networking is one of the great advantages of business networking opportunities today, and it is essential in building the foundation of a great business. However, many business people feel as if social networking is a challenge and that it can amount to a workload of a second business. This is because social networking requires you to be constantly in touch and connected with customers and potential customers every day to promote and build your business, whilst also providing the service of your business at the same time. This can be draining for businesses, especially small businesses who cannot afford to hire a separate employee to be in charge of social networking or networking in general. Although it is a draining and time consuming task, it is crucial for building great business as without social networking, business will be lost to other competitors who are keeping up with the demand for need of social networking. Therefore, it is essential for a business to incorporate social networking, involving media sources such as Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube, into their workload and to devise a networking business plan as networking is the backbone of business and is an essential foundation of great business.

Despite women’s numerous responsibilities outside of and inside of business, they must get better at networking to create great business as networking is the core foundation of any great business. This can be done by allocating more time within work time to set up and provide networking opportunities, such as by creating business accounts with FacebookTwitter, and Youtube, plus networking with other business people in the community who can help with providing a more streamlined service for the business, and by getting more involved by networking with current customers who can provide recommendations to their own network of people to build great business opportunities.

As you can see, networking is the core foundation of building a great business and is essential for growth and development. Without networking, business is lost to other similar business competitors. Therefore, it needs to be sustained at all times and great effort has to go in to it as you build a solid foundation for great business. ~De Harris

Create An Uplifting Day Today by Bonnie Gortler

Create An Uplifting Day Today by Bonnie Gortler

Summer seems to always be a time of fun and enjoyment. If you enjoy summer like I do then you too may want to keep the summer feeling inside of you every day of the year. You can do this by simply committing to start each day with calm positive thoughts. These calming thoughts create a peaceful balance in your mind, body and spirit. You can also achieve this type of calming balance by reminding yourself of the challenges you’ve faced and your ability to work through them. Life can be difficult every now and then. Sometimes we get overloaded with what is wrong. The secret is to focus on what is right. I know when I feel strongest when I remember to do these things and over time this practice has allowed me to enjoy and experience life to the fullest. Especially when my family is together laughing, having fun and are communicating in a loving way while enjoying each others company.

The ability to change your mood and create an uplifting day, today and every, puts you in the drivers seat of your life. You are no longer a puppet or a victim of your circumstances. Your mind is very powerful and changing your mood or attitude requires that you align your thoughts and control your emotions.  I do this by using my imagination as a bridge between what I’m experiencing and my desire. What I picture is my most happiest experiences or what I would enjoy experiencing in the future. One of my favorite scenarios is to picture myself on a beautiful sunny day lying on a lounge chair and listening to calming music while reading a good personal growth book or articles on sports and health & wellness.  I’ve also pictured myself laughing as I’m with friends face to face or engaging via Twitter or Facebook. You can do this too by just remembering your good times and using those to change your attitude. This doesn’t mean you deny what is going on. What you are doing is shifting your thoughts so you can handle what is before you with ease and the least amount of stress as possible.

In addition to visualization I find that exercise works wonders. I usually use my bike or some weights to work out and find that any stress or anxiety I was feeling simply vanishes. Probably one of my most favorite full routines is taking it to the next level with some anger free boxing. Exercise is really a great way to clear your mind and help you focus on solutions. In addition to keeping you focused on the positive, exercise has many long term health benefits too. When you combine regular activity with a balanced diet you will find that your moods will stay constant which can tremendously help in your ability to create an uplifting day.

You cannot control what challenges may come your way. Each of the above activities have helped me to make each and every day wonderful. They have also allowed me to stay true to myself because I’m driving my own mood and attitude, not my mood and attitude driving me.

Here are some other tips that may help too…

  • Enlist the help of your coach – Having a coaching call can be inspiring. Every time I do this, I learn something challenging in a positive loving tone. Even if I am still uncomfortable with the task or homework by the time I am done; I believe that I can, I am empowered and full of gratitude.
  • Add a massage to your weekly routine. Make sure that you have soothing music, aromatherapy oils and a candle lit in the background. Each of these elements help  engage all of your senses. A weekly massage has helped me to calm down enough that I can now let my body go and clear my thoughts. Knowing that I have a well deserved massage waiting in the wings has helped reduce my stress and has helped develop my my mind enough so I can periodically through the day mentally leave the stock market world and enter a realm where my clients, family and the world is smiling and making money through investing.
  • Do a good deed. Time and time again I have found that making another person’s day helps create an uplifting day that reaps long term benefits. It is a can’t miss approach to happiness. You will find that you are suddenly filled with joy and that the favor is usually returned.

What about you? What strategy will you implement so you can create an uplifting day today? Like I say on Twitter ‘Kindness is a rare gift of the heart: Believe in yourself, for you are important and you matter!’ Each day is a true gift. Stop letting days slip away and learn now how to truly be comfortable in your own skin. As you become happier each day, you will inspire others to smile and believe in themselves too. Act now and make yourself smile. Do whatever it takes to enjoy an uplifting day. Remember… you are worthy!

How to Maximize the Benefits of a Networking Event by Biba Pedron

How to Maximize the Benefits of a Networking Event by Biba Pedron

Networking is not selling. The purpose of networking is to build relationships and get exposure to attract clients not to chase them. So stop pitching everybody and nobody and start selling to your target market. ~Biba Pedron

Everyone needs to network: entrepreneurs, small business owners, job seekers! But does everyone maximize the benefits of networking? The purpose of networking is to build relationships so you will get leads from someone you know, or from someone who knows someone you know. When you attend a networking event the purpose is to meet business people from various industries. What networking is not? Networking is not a numbers game; you need to focus on quality and not on quantity. Some people think that they had a successful event when they have collected 30, 40 or more business cards, but they are missing the real point. How many of these 30 or 40 people will you be able to follow-up? How many of these 30 or 40 will follow-up with you? What is the purpose to collect a huge number of business cards that will end up in a shoe-box on one of your shelves? Networking is not a place to sell. You have to be prepared to give your elevator pitch to introduce yourself, not give a sales pitch. If you attend an event expecting to find a client to close a sale right away, chances are you will be very disappointed. Furthermore the other attendees might not appreciate your attitude. What networking is? Networking is more than just shaking hands and collecting business cards. It is about building relationships and being committed to help other business professionals. It is about the quality of your contacts and not the amount of your contacts. It is about consistency. The best is to belong to two or three groups, attend their events regularly, get to know the other members, and in exchange they will get to know you and trust you. When you see the same people over and over you develop a strong and relationship with them. The benefit of building relationships with a committed group of people will result in new leads for your business. It is about patience. The benefit will not appear overnight, and this is why you need to follow up with your contacts. Networking is like dating, one meeting is not enough to know someone. It will probably take some time, some meetings, some lunches or some drinks before you really start doing business together.

Are you looking for leads, partners, new clients, services? Here are some tips on how to maximize the benefits of a networking event: Know your goals.

* Bring your business cards and a pen to take notes on the back of the cards you receive. * Have an effective 15 to 30 second elevator pitch. Learn how to sell yourself before your services or products. People want to hear about you first and when they know you and trust you, they will buy your services or refer you to someone else.

* Have a brochure and/or a web site. Some people will probably want to hear more about your business later, so give them the opportunity to get the information they are looking for.

* Meet people, ask about their business or services. Be curious and ask about them. people love to speak about themselves, so ask questions and listen to their answers.

* Be a problem solver. people will be more interested in you if you tell them how you can solve their problem instead of just hearing your story.

* Go to people; don’t wait for them to come to you. Some people are very shy, they will be very happy if you make the first move.

* Go to events with a friend, a colleague, a client, and introduce people to each other.

* Send a thank you note or email to your new contacts. Thank them for their time and reintroduce yourself in a few lines. They met lots of people during the event and your business card doesn’t say everything about you. So it is good to reinforce your introduction.

* Give them the link to your web site. Tell them about your newsletter, if you have one. This is the best way to stay in touch on a regular basis.

* Schedule follow-up meetings with the people you had a good connection with, or if you think that you can help each other.

* Do it again and again. You will see that networking can expand your contacts, which will definitely help grow your business.

* Be prepared when you attend a networking event.

Best Regards, Biba
